Omaka Observatory

Omaka Observatory is an eco-observatory based in a man made crater located in the Omaka Valley in Marlborough.

We offer star gazing and astronomy tours with bus pick-up and drop-offs from the railway station in Blenheim. At our location there is very little air, light or noise pollution so it is perfect for viewing the nights sky. Our professionally trained guides will take you on a tour of the solar system before giving you a hands on experience with our telescopes. Through our range of telescopes you will be able to view (and sometimes capture your own photos of) planets, galaxies, star clusters as well as view the moon in close detail*. Then try out the latest virtual reality equipment that will transport you into outer space.

This is an outdoor experience so wrap up warm and wear sensible shoes (not your best heels). * Tours will be cancelled in the event of poor weather. Not all Astronomical objects maybe available to view on all tours as the nights sky changes througout the evening.
