Mt Patriarch & Lake Chalice

Mt Patriarch, standing at an elevation of 1,656 meters, is a remarkable spot offering breathtaking views of the Wairau Valley.

NZ Enduro Day 3 9593

The journey begins at the Lake Chalice car park, which is situated at an elevation of 1,200 meters.
The route involves a steep climb along a 4WD track that leads to the summit. This track is used for both hiking and off-road driving, making it accessible to a range of outdoor enthusiasts.

The round trip is estimated to take around 2 to 4 hours.

For those seeking a longer adventure, there's an option to extend the trip by starting from Top Valley. This would make the journey more challenging and time-consuming but also offers a more diverse experience.

If you wish to spend more time in the area, the Department of Conservation (DOC) provides accommodation at Lake Chalice Hut. The hut has six bunks, providing a rustic yet comfortable shelter for overnight stays. Booking may be required in advance.

Before embarking on this adventure, it's essential to check the weather conditions, be well-prepared with appropriate clothing, gear, and supplies, and ensure you're physically fit for the steep climb. Additionally, make sure to follow any safety guidelines and regulations set by the Department of Conservation to protect the natural environment of Mt Richmond Forest Park.
