A feature of the climate especially in the northeast of the Marlborough region is the large amount of sunshine, Blenheim being one of the sunniest towns in New Zealand.

Summer is a season for sailing, kayaking and paddle boarding, or rowing a dinghy across the bay.

Beech trees filter summer sun, casting dappled light on walking trails, and cool rivers beckon, their pure water flowing down from mountains and up from filtering aquifers. It’s a season for leaping from a rope swing into the water, so come plunge into Marlborough this summer.

Vintage pulses through Marlborough as autumn brings the grape harvest and a small army of workers descend on the region to work in the vineyards and wineries.

Visit cellar doors for the aroma of fermenting wine and the buzz of a province at work. Sip aromatics, with a view of golden vines and eat fresh produce from Marlborough’s restaurants among the vines, in town or out in the Marlborough Sounds.

Grab your camera and visit Marlborough this autumn!

Winter brings blue-sky days, calm weather and smooth water. It’s a fantastic time of year to sail to a secluded Marlborough Sounds bay for a lunch blessed with birdsong, or to walk the Queen Charlotte Track.

Head to Rainbow Ski Field for some fun in the snow, or stay inside with a glass of pinot noir, matched with local lamb, in front of a crackling fire.
