Flaxbourne Heritage Centre
After the 2016 quake our small Museum was taken down and our collection stored in 2 containers. Through the hard work and determination of the community, today celebrates the official opening of the new centre. The heritage centre, designed to showcase the history of the Flaxbourne area, will mark the 1855, 2013 and 2016 earthquakes, and will also cover the history of Māori settlement, moa hunters, European settlers, shipwrecks, sealers, people, landscapes and industries.
The Whale Trail
The Whale Trail will be an incredible world-class cycling and walking trail, connecting coastal communities between Picton and Kaikōura. The trail is as much about creating world-class experiences as it is about connecting our communities. Since the beginning of this project, the Marlborough Kaikōura Trail Trust has envisioned a community-driven, community focused project, both during development of the trail and once it is established.
We are delighted to be celebrating the opening of these two legacy projects in Flaxbourne.
