Picton Maritime Festival
Gregory Engineering has a long history in Picton, with 41 years of marine and general engineering.
Living onsite had its benefits during lockdown and we were given permission to continue working to support essential services in primary production. We quickly decided to use the time we had been given to make some improvements to our workshop layout that we’d wanted to do for a long time.
As it turns out, our vision in creating individual work areas and stations for our staff pre-empted level 3’s conditions of separating workers, so it worked out really well.
Since reopening, we’ve had to adjust and work out ways to continue serving our customers to the best of our ability while keeping everyone safe.
We bought the business from Jason’s parents in 1993, and since then have expanded to cover everything from hydraulics, machining, fabrication and engineering supplies. With our two CNC waterjet cutting machines - we are a one stop shop with a diverse group of 14 staff.
A big focus for us now is to focus on our workflow and ensuring their job security.
Like many, lockdown has had an impact on business, but we are remaining positive and determined to see this challenge through so we come out the other end stronger and more resilient.
It’s a great opportunity for us all in Marlborough to look inwards and see the breadth of talent that’s here in our region across many industries. If we all support the fantastic resources and skills that we have here by supporting our local businesses, imagine what we can achieve.
