Tractor Repairs and Spares was established in Blenheim by Adrian Orchard in 1996. Back then it was a husband and wife team, with Adrian working out of a service vehicle, and Pam doing the bookwork.
Since then, the business has expanded to 45 staff working across four branches in Renwick, Seddon, Nelson and Hastings.
Thankfully grape growers and winemakers were given the go ahead to continue with vintage during lockdown, and we were able to continue working to ensure tractors, harvesters and other essential vineyard machinery were running smoothly throughout.
Thanks to the internet, our sales team, service manager and parts staff were all able to work from home, while our apprentices caught up on book work and continued their training online.
We are very lucky to have such great employers who paid us full wages throughout lockdown.
Getting back to work through the various levels was challenging, with lots of new processes and rigorous sanitising to contend with, but it was good to be able to get back to it.
We’ve been very busy with repairs and maintenance and many customers have had to purchase new implements to help with pruning because of the lack of seasonal workers able to come into the country.
What the global pandemic has shown us is no one is immune to these global challenges. We are incredibly lucky in Marlborough to have such a diverse range of industries contributing to our economy.
Now is the time to get out there and support our local wine companies. Everyone in Marlborough should be drinking Marlborough wine!
