Alex Craig’s best summer days include a session skim boarding at White’s Bay, his board flying over the shallow water, or boogie boarding if there’s surf.

Alex Craig knows how to have fun.

The 7-year-old’s daily wish-list might start with a bike ride at Conder’s Bend, near the Wairau River, or up the Taylor River Reserve until he reaches the Wither Hills Mountain Bike Park.

Then it’ll progress to a boat ride to Lochmara Lodge, where he’s straight to the kayaks and paddling around the bay, or to the rope swing that’ll fly him out above the water.

Sustenance comes in the form of hot chips in a restaurant, looking over the beach, before he leaps back up to feed the Kakariki in the aviary.

The best spring and summer days include a session skim boarding at White's Bay, his board flying over the shallow water, or boogie boarding if there’s surf.

Alex loves to fish off the wharf at Ngakuta Bay in the Queen Charlotte Sound, then camp at nearby Momorangi Bay, where he wakes to a view of the Marlborough Sounds and days of sun and sand.

Hot days might mean leaping off the wharf at St Arnaud, into a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains.

In winter he heads that way too, hitting Rainbow Ski Area, where he’s been skiing since he was 3 years old, just like his mum Andrea did when she was little.

She helps organise the Lights over Marlborough, a fundraiser for Whitney Street School, so come November he’ll be at A&P Park with all the other people, gazing at star studded skies.
