“We are so spoilt in Marlborough when it comes to great food. We’ve got crayfish from the east coast and salmon, oysters and mussels grown in the Marlborough Sounds."

My insider guide to Marlborough

The Salmon Trail

When visiting sunny Marlborough, why not take yourself on a foodie adventure and taste the locally grown King salmon at one of many eateries along The Salmon Trail. You'll see the salmon on the menus as Regal, Southern Ocean, or Ōra King.

Marlborough provides the perfect environment for seafood delicacies including King (Chinook) Salmon, Greenshell™ mussels, clams, oysters, crayfish, paua and various fish species.

Pick a place to dine from The Salmon Trail map or listings below and taste for yourself why the salmon here is so delicious.

There's also the unique opportunity to jump on a cruise in the Marlborough Sounds where you'll pull up near a salmon farm, and sample fresh salmon from ocean to plate.

The Produce

The New Zealand King Salmon Company farms King salmon in the crystal clear waters of the Marlborough Sounds, operating under the brands Regal, Southern Ocean and Ōra King. Farms in the Marlborough Sounds are located in deep water bays, providing ideal growing conditions for the salmon. The currents from the Cook Strait continually filter cool, clean water in the Marlborough Sounds, helping to produce top conditions for the salmon.
