Walks

Get to know Marlborough step by step, via walking tracks to alpine peaks, golden trails on working farms and native bush walks in the Marlborough Sounds.

Marlborough walks can be as challenging as Mount Tapuae-o-Uenuku, as beautiful as the Queen Charlotte Track and as relaxing as the Taylor River reserve.

Whether you’re hiking for a day or a week, staying in a tent, hut or lodge, you’ll love the pace of Marlborough.

Start planning your walk with New Zealand Mountain Safety Councils Plan my Walk app. An awesome app that provides you with useful information of particular tracks, alerts, weather and what gear you will need. Click here to check it out

Richmond Range day walks

**Mt Richmond Forest Park – Northbank Road Access - Closed

All access to Richmond Range track ends are closed until further notice due to slip and windfall damage.
This includes: Mt Riley/Mt Sunday access; Pine Valley and Mill Flat; Bartletts Creek (Mt Royal); Timms Creek (Mt Fell); Richmond Saddle Road, (Mt Richmond Route); Top Valley (Old Man); Staircase Road (Chalice, Patriarch); Goulter access.**

The Richmond Range is a fantastic place for day walks and overnight missions, with a myriad of tracks accessed off the Mt Richmond Forest Park. Expect some steep climbs to reach exposed peaks like Mt Fishtail, or try gentler walks like Foster’s Clearing.

To get to these Richmond Range walks, turn off State Highway 6, just north of the Wairau River Bridge, 16 km from Blenheim.

Logging can sometimes close the roads, so check with the Department of Conservation (DOC).
