The New Zealand Antarctic Society is proud to present a curated selection of captivating short films from the heart of Antarctica. This compelling programme blends stunning documentary footage that reveals the continent’s stark beauty and unforgiving conditions with inventive, often humorous, entries from the Winter International Film Festival of Antarctica’s 48-Hour Challenge, an annual showcase of creativity and resilience from those who live and work on the Ice.
But before that, Jan Clayton-Greene will tell us about the differences in attitudes to women, the gear available and the environment between her first visit to the Dry Valleys as a geochemistry student in 1983/84 and her last visits as a government observer on tourist ships between 2006 and 2009. We’ll take a 20 minute break to recover from that, then launch into the movies.
