Maruia River Retreat is a 500-acre nature estate with 11-km of Department of Conservation walks, 1.5-kilometre frontage of the rich Maruia River and backed my mountain ranges within the property. We only have 7 villas graciously hosted by our Kiwi resident hosts and private chef so you can experience true NZ hospitality. Our cuisine is highly-reviewed and is mostly sourced from our local gardens and the best of what the region has to offer. We are also the perfect base to explore nearby attractions. We are within 2-3 hour scenic drives to the beaches, lakes and national parks of the Nelson-Tasman region as well as the scenic landscapes of the Canterbury region, wineries and vineyards of Marlborough and Blenheim and wildlife adventures of Kaikoura. And should you wish for more adventure options, we can organise White Water Rafting, Heli-tours, local wine tours and visits to nearby attractions. Our contemporary renovations formed a carefully considered backdrop for our ethos of simple, fresh, essential basics executed with true attention to detail. Providing food, fire, shelter, water, exercise, pure clean air, and comfort, Maruia offers all the ingredients for a perfect retreat. The terraces by the river’s edge are where Maruia truly becomes a haven. With Idyllic views of the Maruia River and Estate gardens, guests have the privilege of choice of two Master villas or five Luxe Villas. Our beds and furnishings have been curated for ultimate comfort and relaxation, with thorough attention to detail, creating a delightful designer escape. All the seven villas are fully self-contained with the addition of brand new Italian kitchenettes, allowing flexibility and to encourage longer stays.
